I lost my iPhone 3gs when the phone made bad contact with the case and slipped out. I recommend the seidio case and clip. It holds the phone much more secure with its manual release spring clip. Otterbox really screwed up when they gave up the “slip in” type case for this friction lock type. If your in public safety, the case is second to none, but the belt clip is terrible. Hope it helps.

I’ve purchased two OtterBox Defender Series cases for my iPhone 3Gs. The actual case itself, with a hard plastic interior surrounded by a gel wrap-around shield is GREAT. It’s protected it from the 5 times that the phone has popped out of the belt clip. I always make certain that all of the rubber tabs are in place, the phone is securely seated in the clip, etc.. That does NOT keep it from falling out. My coat can hit it the wrong way, and there goes the phone to the pavement. I can move at a fast walk through a parking lot, and there goes the phone into a slush puddle. This is the ONE weakness of the OtterBox system. The case is great, the clip is horrible. I ended up going with a Nite-Ize case designed for digital cameras. Works much better.

The otter box for the I phone is excellent, but it had better be, because the holster they give you sucks! They need to design a better type of retention system. The phone falls out if you jump down out of your truck, or if you slightly bump the holster while working, the phone becomes dislodged and will fall onto the ground every time. This has happened to me at least a dozen times in the past 6 months. I broke the first holster by bumping into a door, the plastic just snapped. That was understandable. I would highly recommend the Otter box phone case but the holster is total crap. Trust a contractor’s experience on this.

I got this belt clip with my OtterBox Defender case for my iPhone 3GS. The belt clip DOES NOT HOLD THE PHONE SECURELY, so the belt clip is EXTREMELY prone to dropping the phone.

In the six or eight months I’ve had the Otter case / belt clip, I’ve dropped my phone due to my own clumsiness ONCE, but the phone has hit the deck because this lousy belt clip dropped it maybe 99 times, including once in the toilet! Because the Defender CASE is so amazingly effective, my iPhone lives unscathed, with nary a scratch, but (oh the irony) the OtterBox BELT CLIP is by far the single greatest threat that my iPhone faces. The BELT CLIP warrants NO STARS, zero, zip, nada, nil.

The design of this belt clip is simply a failure. First of all, unless everything is absolutely perfect, the Defender case does not “snap in” to this belt clip. If any part of (sides or bottom) the Otter Defender silicone cover is not perfectly fit onto the case and properly closed up, or if any small bit of your clothing fabric gets into the mix, the phone will not “lock” as it goes in to the belt clip. Since THERE IS NO “FEEDBACK” as to whether it’s “locked in” the only way you find out it’s not locked in is when the phone falls on the ground or floor (or in the water). Even when it does snap in, it’s not a very strong hold, so any very significant jolt or bump or movement or any halfway decent excuse and this worthless belt clip will drop your $5-6-7-800 worth of iPhone careening onto the concrete. Finally, the clamp that actually clips the holder onto your pants has a “locked open” setting. I have no idea what positive purpose of this design was intended for, but in practice, it tends to lock open when you do NOT want it open as you are bending and moving and so forth, so again, the whole thing is likely to drop off your waist and (again) hit the ground.

I strongly recommend the Otter Defender case, but think people should know that the belt clip that comes with it works to the exact opposite direction of protection. I’ve had it with this belt clip, it’s junk. I’m throwing it away and am going to look for one that actually that holds the phone.

I have owned the otter box defender for over a year and have broken two clips. Also, the phone pops out of the clip to easily. Love the case. It does a great job of protecting the phone since I am very active and love to be outdoors. The clip is trash.
