Everyone elses’ review has it spot on. A couple of other comments though -

    1. TERRIBLE outer shell – they say it’s “brushed metal” – but it gets horribly scratched up even when you do not drop it/ even when you handle it like a new born baby. It’s really frustrating, and it looks bad.

Additionally, the bottom edge is plastic (not metal) – which looks stupid from up-close and will probably get chipped – even worse than the metal casing will get scratched.

    2. No way to lock the phone without going through the menu (about 4 commands) – UNBLOODY-BELIEVABLE. what a major oversight! I mean you should be able to enable the phone lock/security with a shortcut key.

    3. Similar to above there is no way to change the ringer to/from vibrate or to/from any other modes from the eternal buttons WHILE THE PHONE IS CLOSED. If anyone has owned a motorola you know that you can change from ring/ring-vibrate/vibrate from the outside IN THE CLOSED POSITION. In this phone you cannot. You have to open the phone – go through the menu – or you can go to vibrate by holding down the * key. ANNOYING. Sure the external volume buttons work when the phone is open! But what about when the phone is closed – they should do their job and let you switch to vibrate/silent… which you cannot.

Screen is impossible to read in sunlight. Cannot see caller ID, missed messages etc. When keying in phone numbers that you are calling, numbers are large and legible but all else is horrible. Of course this is standard to all LCDs(read modern screens) verses older VGA(read much better resolution and contrast). I am about to relicense my older LG phone with VGA.

Software menu’s are much harder to use then older menu layout and software on previous LG’s.

The absolute worst defect(feature?) is when you receive a call, it is almost impossible to retrieve from your pocket without touching the call interruption button on the outside edge of the phone. This of course disconnects the call and with the crummy screen and you are outside, it is impossible to tell who was calling that you disconnected. This design flaw could be very easily corrected by several means that would take even a full blown idiot about 5 minutes to think up. Possibly requiring 2 rapidly hits to the disconnect button to cut off a call. There are other simple ideas to resolve this problem.

This was a problem with my previous LG. You would think that these miscreants that design this stuff would use it in the real world before foisting there newest bright ideas on to the unsuspecting consumer. In other words to see what us chickens are eating out here.

I do not like the way the square edge of the earpiece fits my ear. The more rounded oval type edges are far better for getting audio into the ear canal.

As noted by others, the keyboard sucks. Would be nice if some commonly used keys were color coded so that in daylight when keys(they are flat and very reflective) are hard to see, they would be more user friendly.

Do like the slimline of the phone and its high tech look. Only reason that I upgraded(?) phone was to gain bluetooth but am finding that my older phone was far more ergonomically user friendly. But of course these designers are engineers and most do not live in the real world anyway. I see this poor design in so many modern products.

I had this for over two years and i am already wishing to switch phones. It was an awesome phone when i got it at first it’s slick, silver, slim, etc. but the quality of the phone is poo poo. The battery life is a disaster, it dies out very very fast. The camera quality got significantly worse(yes i know all lenses get scratched) but this phone just gets worse and worse through the years. The silver cover gets scratched and it looks like mortal hell lol. The keypad is nearly invisible so it’s frustrating when you are trying to text. Anyways, im ready to change my phone to a blackberry so i am excited.

I got this phone for free after I had to replace the LG Chocolate series 3 times. I really like the phone. The design is sophisticated, and the call quality is great. Battery life is good. One of the best phones I’ve ever had. I prefer Samsung, but this LG is good. Only cons I would say is it reflects sunlight pretty good, haha. So watch your eyes especially when you’re driving and you go to use the phone when the sun is beaming on you, it will shoot sun rays into your eye balls and cause momentary blindness, haha. So be careful. Second, don’t talk on this phone while it’s hooked to the battery. You shouldn’t anyways with any cell phone, but especially this one. I don’t use blue tooth b/c personally I can’t find any of them that work that well, but people complained about blue tooth not working on this phone and if that’s the case then I can see where it would be a bad phone for those guys.

I love these people who think they are a phone conesuer. Look, there is never going to be a perfect phone so deal with the one you have and evidently you went to the store and picked it out. Well in my opinion from when I had other phone companies Verizon Wireless is the best carrier I have ever had. Also the LG VX8700 is the best phone I have ever owned. So get over yourself and actually enjoy what you have instead of griping about it. The phone takes great Pictures/Video (The display is fine if you know how to set it right) for brightness etc. The sound is crystal clear and nice loud ring tones since i work in a shop with loud machinery. So I would definately purchase this phone if you are looking for an all around great phone! And if you have a problem with pulling a phone out of your pocket and missing a call simply get a phone case to clip to your belt. Simple as that.
