Phone Features
The LG LX370 has a 2-inch LCD screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and 262K color depth. It sits above a chrome-accented circular navigation pad that’s joined by send/end and soft navigation keys as well as a back button. The face slides smoothly upward to reveal a standard alpha-numeric keypad with flush buttons. The phone’s memory can be expanded via optional MicroSD memory cards, up to 16 GB in size.

This phone features Sprint’s One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most–features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation–right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you’ll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here’s how it works:

  • Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone’s home screen.
  • The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
  • Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
  • Add up to 8 “bubbles”–at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
  • Browse and download new tiles from your phone’s “Personalize Home Screen” tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
  • Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
  • The “Home” tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.

Make Web browsing even faster with a dedicated Google Search bar that resides on your Web application page. You get quick access to news, local listings, maps, images, or whatever you’re interested in. And because your most recent searched locations are stored, you’ll find what you want even faster the next time you search.

Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.1), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and file transfer. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking–surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server (additional charges or subscription applicable).

Other features include:

  • 2-megapixel camera allows you to capture images for personal and business purposes and send them to friends and colleagues
  • SMS Voice and Text Messaging Enabled: Instantly send and receive SMS Text Messages across the room or across the country, anywhere in the Nationwide Sprint Network. Text messaging without typing! Send voice messages to any mobile phone or email address. Just select a recipient, record a message and send.

  • Social Zone: The Social Zone application is your gateway for keeping up with all your favorite social communities such as Photobucket, MySpace, and more. From the easy-to-use dashboard view, you can respond to friend requests, view and send messages, post comments and update your status or profiles, all from your phone. You can also use your phone’s camera to take photos, then upload them straight to your networking sites without closing the application.

I chose this phone for customizability. The LX370 comes with the MicroSD card so you can transfer your own stuff onto your phone. It’s easy to use, and I have since transferred my own screensavers, ID photos and ringtones. So thumbs up for this. Using WinFF, one could even upload an entire movie on the phone. Continuing on customizability, you can change font sizes and whatnot so it ends up looking fairly sleek. Image quality on the screen is gorgeous.

The screen is quite nice and I was worried about it getting scratched. However, pretty much any screen protector you buy will be junk, from my experience. I’ve had this phone uncovered for several months now and the screen is still scratch-free. Cool.

Battery life isn’t too bad. When you first get it, it’ll only last about a day, but after using it (draining it and recharging it) a few times it will then last several days.

The phone’s camera quality is inferior – it’s supposedly 2.0 megapixels, but the quality is the same as my old Katana’s VGA camera. But I have a digital SLR that I use for photos and I just upload those onto my phone instead. Same for the ringtones – the phone’s standard ringtones are unbelievably crappy. Worse than my old Katana (the original black one, which was what I had for 3 yrs before I upgraded). You can upload ringtones but cannot set them for alarms, ugh.

Texting on the phone is actually kind of annoying. You have to keep pushing the options button to type in symbols/numbers – and after you type that in you have to push the option button again to go back to predictive text. My old Katana never did that – you hunted for your special emoticon and it automatically went to T9. Also, it’s super easy to accidentally send a message before you’re done typing. It saves your messages as conversations. Overall, I’m not keen on the texting. Also, whereas I could text one-handed with the Katana, I can’t do the same on this phone because when you slide it open the top of the phone is too heavy and it feels unbalanced in your hand. However, you CAN text to email addresses (then you can text to your friends in Japan, whoohoo)!

Overall, the LX370 is nice if you’re looking for something sleek and customizable. Sound quality is good, sliding mechanism is smooth (just don’t drop it in the sand at the beach), image resolution is nice. I don’t use the internet or the camera on it so I can’t comment on that but I’d say this is worth the money. If you go to an IRL store you can buy it with a plan for about $30 or less. Just warning, if you originally had a Blackberry or a QWERTY phone, don’t expect to be impressed.

I have been using this phone for a couple of months now and have to give it the highest rating. It is straight forward and easy to learn to navigate on, very user friendly and of excellent quality including the most important of all being sound. The voice announcing the incoming call numbers is nice when you are driving so you don’t have to fumble with it or look away from the road to see who is calling. I will say that I do not use it for any texting or internet applications so I cannot comment on anything related to those features. Good job LG!

My company recently purchased several of these for employees. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks, and so far I like a great deal and have had no problems. The menus and features are great and easy to use. The only downside so far is the battery life, and my fellow coworkers have said the same. At first the battery would only last about a day, and I was using it probabably only 2 to 3 hours that day. The rest of the day was standby time only. Now that I’ve been pampering the battery for a couple of weeks by completely draining it, then charging for 8 hours, I’m up to 2 days of battery life.

Having the phone for over 2 weeks I have played around quite a bit and as I write this review I am left with a mixed review. (I upgraded from a Samsung m500, which I was fairly happy with, so that take that into account. Also, I was intentionally not looking for a smart phone so that probably needs to be factored in as well.)

    Highs:

    - brilliant, large screen

    - sleek look, sturdy feel with a nice slide action

    - I like the “one-click/tile” concept, I keep my tiles to a minimum but it is possible to add up to 14 (facebook tile is great as well as the yahoo and google tile with maps) but the real winner here is the messaging tile with super fast email (faster by far over checking mail over the web – configurable with yahoo, gmail, hotmail, aol, & outlook webmail for an additional fee)

    - interface and menu is driven mainly by time-saving numbered menus (pick a menu option by pressing the assigned number instead of having to click up or down then pressing the OK button)

    - picture quality is an upgrade over my old phone but like some reviews on other sites have said the camera is not great for low light picture taking, in proper lighting the pics are good, but certainly not anywhere near iphone quality

    - Threaded texting in a nice bonus

    Lows:

    - takes too long to get to web bookmarks, from the main screen 4 clicks (3 to the bookmark list, then a long click for each bookmark on the list); once you are on the web then an additional 5 clicks (4 to the bookmark list, then a long click for each bookmark on the list)

    - I am used to having a up/down rocker on the right side of the phone for screen scrolling with my thumb, this phone only has one rocker on the left side so that is still taking some time to get used to (if you are left handed this might be a good thing)

    - back button should be bigger (after using for a while I wished they made this button wider and longer), maybe this was done for screen locking reasons when the phone is idle but whatever the reason the small button is a shortcoming

    - some applications (facebook for one) do not have a comma included as a text option under the #1 key, this is a minor issue but annoying that this only happens in certain apps, perhaps a s/w update will fix this in the future

    - not sure what tests were run to achieve the 6 hr battery rating, but on some days I would get down to one bar very quickly, I am sure the screen has alot to do with this but I am afraid to think how my battery will perform after 12 to 18 months of use

Overall I would say this is a solid, not exceptional, phone. Although it is an acceptable upgrade I might have to pawn off on the wife over time if I find a more complete package with less of the lows above while maintaining all of the highs.
